CONTRACT WITH SPMI TODAY


SPM Insurance, Inc. offers assistance to individuals and business entities in acquiring resident and/or non-resident state life insurance licenses. Please note that requirements for obtaining insurance licenses are determined by the Department of Insurance of each individual state. Oour offices will be glad to help walk you thorugh the in-State licensing, renewal, transfer, or non-resident licensing requirements for you as an individual agent or for your entire agency, The following information is provided as a ready reference to the steps required for Insurance licensing.

LICENSE TYPES

A resident license is obtained in the state where you reside and is required when selling insurance to an applicant in your state of residence. A non-resident license, obtained in the states or US territories where you do not reside, is required when selling insurance to an applicant in another state or US territory.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INSURANCE LICENSING

•     Licensing education courses may be required to obtain an individual resident insurance license.
•    Additional Ethics and Annuity CE is being required in many states.
•    A resident insurance license is required before an individual or business entity can obtain any non-resident license
•    Most states require insurance company (“carrier”) sponsorship to obtain an insurance license
•    For a business to obtain an insurance license, the entity must have at least one licensed employee or principal
•    Commission payments may only be made to a licensed individual or a licensed business entity without exception
•    Licensing and contracting for the sale of any variable life insurance products must be handled in accordance with
     the licensed agent's Broker Dealer, in addition to the requirements as listed above.

INSURANCE LICENSING INSTRUCTIONS

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR RESIDENT LICENSING


1.   Log on to www.naic.org/state_contacts/sid_websites.htm 
2.   Click on a state for access to that state's Department of Insurance website
3.   Within most states, choose agent/agency licensing to access state specific instructions
4.   Determine licensing education courses and testing requirements, if applicable.
5.   Print the required state specific licensing forms, complete the forms and prepare to submit to the state's
      Department of Insurance, including any required fee payment
6.   If insurance company sponsorship is required for state licensing, contact SPM Insurance, Inc.
      to determine the appropriate sponsoring carrier, and to assist you to obtain & submit the necessary contracting paperwork
7.   If insurance company sponsorship is not required, simply completed licensing forms with appropriate fees
      and other requirements should be sent to the state's Department of Insurance


GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR NON-RESIDENT LICENSING

1.  Log on to http://www.nipr.com  
2.   Click on a state for access to that state's Department of Insurance website
3.   Click on either business or individual requirements, and print information for review
4.   If indicated that the state accepts the Uniform Non-Resident application, log on to
      http://www.nipr.com/non_resident_paper_licensing.htm  
5.   Download and print either the business or individual application
6.   Complete the downloaded application form, following any specific instructions from the state requirements print-out
7.   If the state does not accept the Uniform Non-Resident application, log on to the state website as indicated in 1 and 2 above
8.   If insurance company sponsorship is required for state licensing, contact SPM Insurance, Inc.
      to determine the appropriate sponsoring carrier, and to assist you to obtain & submit the necessary contracting paperwork
9.   If insurance company sponsorship is not required, completed licensing forms with appropriate fees and
      other requirements should be sent to the state's Department of Insurance


CONTRACTING INSTRUCTIONS

SPM Insurance, Inc. offers assistance in contracting with our complete listing of top rated life insurance companies. Contracting through SPM Insurance, Inc. with an insurance carrier allows an individual or business entity to sell that carrier's products. Please refer to our Carriers List for our current listing of available carriers. Please contact SPMI if your need assistance our if you desire the addition of a carrier that is not currently on our list.

1.   Select a carrier to access their contracting paperwork
2.   If the desired carrier's paperwork is unavailable via the website, contact SPM Insurance, Inc. for assistance
3.   Download and print the contracting paperwork
4.   Assemble the completed contracting paperwork package (as listed below), retain a photocopy, and forward to:

1.   Completed contracting paperwork
2.   Copy of your resident insurance license
3.   Copies of any non-resident licenses for states in which you want to be appointed by the carrier
      (please note that some carriers may charge fees for non-resident appointments)
4.   Copy of Errors & Omissions insurance coverage

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

•    For a business entity to be contracted, the entity must have at least one licensed “writing agent” associated
     with the contract Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance is required
•    Licensed entities and/or individuals are eligible to contract with multiple carriers
•    Most carriers prefer to contract an entity or individual only when their products are actively being sold
     (most contracts include minimum annual production requirements)
